Jonathan is passionate about legal research and is credited for the preparation of legal opinions on corporate restructuring of an international charity organisation, tax waivers for educational projects in Uganda, tax advisory such as a recent article on System-to-System Invoicing by Uganda Revenue Authority and identifying and clarifying new tax developments in the Law.

Jonathan has a keen interest in tax litigation and commercial transactions. He has represented several companies before the Tax Appeals Tribunal of Uganda in tax disputes concerning the deduction of interest expenses for a company which is not a subsidiary or holding company, Value Added Tax on Interconnect invoices and Withholding Tax rate on roaming services.

Jonathan represented Birungyi, Barata & Associates at the Tax Engagement with the Tax Justice Alliance and Southern and Eastern Africa Trade, Information and Negotiations Institute (SEATINI), Residential Training on Tax Expenditures and Taxation of the Digital Economy and the Ernst and Young seminar on Tax Controversy and Digital Trends.
